Dr. Jaume Martorell studied at the Autonomous University of Barcelona from which he received a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and his PhD in 2006.
He has worked in private exotic pet practice from 1995.
Since 2000 he is a professor of the “Facultat de Veterinària de la Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona”, where he is responsible of the Exotic animal and Zoo medicine subject and is the head of the exotic pet service in the “Hospital Clinic Veterinari” (HCV-UAB).
In 2011, Dr. Martorell is recognized as an active Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM) in the specialty Small Mammals Medicine. Currently, he is the supervisor of the ECZM-residency program (small mammal) and the exotic pet –internship in the HCV-UAB.
He has focused his research activity on the study of exotic and wild small mammal medicine, especially in viral diseases, participating in several research projects. He has participated in several scientific papers in scientific journals and speaker in numerous national courses and congresses. He is an active member of veterinary national and internationals veterinary associations such as AVEPA-GMCAE, where he was the past president, SECV, and AEMV.
